My Mazdaspeed6 was built in February of 2006, making it 12 years old this month. It doesn’t complain as much as most other 12-year-olds, so I’d say it’s doing a pretty good job.

Eh, the 30-year-old Mazda I had before the Speed6 was pretty much rust-free as well.

The Speed6 has lived most of its life in southern California. My 323 GTX spent a lot of time in the New Mexico desert before I brought it to Colorado, so it actually had way more UV damage (no clear coat lefton the roof & hood, brittle upholstery fabric resulting in a rip in the driver seat) than rust.

my brother had a red GTX like this in the early 90s
was already repainted because of rust in the really early 90s.
very fun car at the time, first car that i sat in going sideways on gravel roads.

If it’s not the snow, it’s the sun!

What a beauty! The paints Mazda was using in this time period weren’t the best quality, that’s for sure. The GTX is incredibly fun on dirt, gravel, or snow.
